Introduction :

The project focuses on establishing an experimental lab for the M.Tech program on "Quantum and Solid State Devices" at IIT Hyderabad. Quantum technologies play a crucial role in future devices, and this initiative bridges the gap between theory and practical implementation.

Objective:

Led by S. Narayana Jammalamadaka, J. Mohanty, and S. S. K. Raavi, Associate Professors at the Department of Physics, IIT Hyderabad, the project aims to develop an experimental lab for the M.Tech program. The objective is to train professionals in quantum and solid-state technologies, addressing the increasing demand for skilled individuals in areas like communications, spintronics, optoelectronics, nanoelectronics, and biosciences. The initiative strives to provide hands-on experience in experiments and simulations related to quantum and solid-state devices, fostering a practical understanding of quantum principles. The proposed budget includes essential equipment like a scanning tunneling microscope, quantum eraser/cryptography analogy tools, Anisotropic magnetoresistance device characterization setup, and a single-photon source and detector. These tools will enhance students' practical exposure, aligning with the national push for quantum technologies and skill development.

Timeline & Budget:

Year 1: Procurement and setup of scanning tunneling microscope and quantum eraser/cryptography analogy tools (Approx. Rs. 17 lakhs).

Year 2: Installation of the Anisotropic magnetoresistance device characterization setup (Approx. Rs. 15 lakhs).

Year 3: Acquisition and implementation of the single-photon source and detector (Approx. Rs. 25 lakhs).
