Technology is evolving at a fast pace these days and involves multiple disciplines to work together to take advantage of the evolving opportunities.
Centers of excellence (CoEs) are an excellent way by which multidisciplinary research can take place. These CoEs will draw researchers from various disciplines and pursue research in a particular domain. The CoE will equip itself with the latest equipment and other shared facilities to enable research. The endowment fund may range from Rs. 5 - 50 Cr ($ 700,000 - $ 7,000,000).
Selection criteria and operations of the center:
- The Institution can decide on the CoE based on the need for research and the adequacy of researchers to work on the chosen area of research. The donor can also suggest a specific domain in which a CoE can be established provided adequate critical mass exists at IIT Hyderabad (IITH).
- The CoE will be headed by a Professor In-charge for managing the day to operations.
- The CoE will pursue scientific research and industry-sponsored research.
- The CoE also will be engaged in knowledge dissemination by conducting technical conferences and symposia/workshops and skill development activities.
