The Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC) at IIT Hyderabad proposes to establish an Inclusive Study Centre for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) / Divyangjan, equipped with assistive technologies and accessible infrastructure to promote inclusive education and research.
This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment notification (13-Feb-2024) mandating accessibility aids in libraries for Divyangjan users. The centre will provide an inclusive environment for 183 identified PWD users at IITH, including students, faculty, and staff.
The proposed setup includes:
-
Assistive software (Kibo Kits, screen readers, Braille tools, adaptive keyboards)
-
Hardware (computers & workstations)
-
Gadgets & accessories (headphones, Braille tools)
-
Infrastructure enhancements (tactile tiles, ramps, color markings, CCTV integration, ergonomic furniture)
-
Miscellaneous & outreach activities (Sugamya Pustakalaya membership, awareness programs)
The total estimated budget for establishing the centre is ₹34 Lakhs.
This initiative will make IITH-KRC fully inclusive, enabling Divyangjan users to access, learn, and engage effectively in a supportive and barrier-free academic environment.
